Wednesday WOW 1/8/2014

I'm joining Em @ Curious Firsties for her weekly linky party Wednesday WOW. I think my WOWs or more like wows, but I've only been back to school two days.

We (teachers) had to go back to school on Friday for a professional development day. The kids were supposed to come back on Monday but our school closed due to extreme temperatures. I was so happy to have one more day off.  Wow does that make me lazy or what??? So I went back with students yesterday. It was my last day to have the kinders. I have to say that I really enjoyed having them in my class.

Yesterday I needed to do some final assessments to finish their report cards. I was assessing Brenna, she was supposed to be counting some little erasers. She was trying to count them w/o moving them and as I'm sure can imagine she was counting some of them twice. I told her to try it again and move them as she counted them. It was so funny, she would move each one in a different direction as far as her arm could reach. I had the hardest time not laughing. But she did count them right! :) After that I asked her to count for me, she said she could count to 10. I told her I knew she could count higher than that, I ask her to try to count to 50. She said, "How about 110?" and preceded to do so! I'm going to miss having that little girl in my class. :D

Today was I got my students back from the other first grade class. It was a pretty smooth transition. they were happy to come back to my class, which is kind of funny. When I told the kids who would be moving to the other class, they all started cheering as their name was called. I had a few that kept asking me if they could move too.  Anyway, now we are all back together and I am starting the days with rules and procedures. I have a positive outlook for the rest of the school year.

  1. 110!! That is so great! I am sure that was exciting to watch. I know this is different...but I always get so excited when my three year old moves objects to count them. (It doesn't happen often!) But it makes me so happy. Thanks for linking up. Your wow is for sure a WOW!

    1. I know exactly what you mean. I remember when Delaney was in kindergarten, she was reading a little book to me. It said something like, "I see a cat jump.". She read, "I can see a can jump." She stopped and went back to read it again because it didn't make sense. I was thrilled and wished that I was able to teach that to all of my students.

    1. We were out that day for frigid temps and I was wishing for another. lol I know I won't like it at the end of the year when we have to make up the days. The district added 20 minutes to the students day so there are like 7 built in snow days, but they didn't add anything to the teachers day so we have to make them up. We have already missed 4 days.

    1. Thanks Alyce, it did go well. Most of the ones that went to the other room were my lower and very talkative students. So far they have been very quiet since coming back...you think it will stay that way???

    1. Thanks Tammy, it's kind of like starting the year again, but they seem a little more mature. ;P We are definitely having to work on walking in a line and going over the procedures LOTS!

  5. I'm glad you've got your class back, too! I can't imagine how hard that whole switching around must have been.
